This time last year, we faced our first full year of being full-time photographers…and we had only 2 weddings booked.
Everything was uncertain.
Often we want to make our lives look so picture perfect – everything falls in its perfect place and perfect time. Look how pretty our pictures show our lives to be! But, as you live life…it can be so freakin’ messy. Chaotic. Uncertain.
That’s why I love the new year. It’s a new start to look out to a scary but anything-is-possible for these next 365 days. Every January, we have to push ourselves to dream again, to try again, to fail again, to get up again.
Know this for sure: If you’re going to pursue anything great in life, you’ll fail. You’ll make mistakes. You may not know what you’re doing half the time. And, because many people would rather take the safe route” in life, you’ll be moving against the flow of traffic. But how exhilarating a feeling it is to walk the other way!
God gave us the most amazing Christmas gift this year. Guess what we got for Christmas? ____________________________________________________ “IT’S IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP A SECRET…ESPECIALLY ONE AS WONDERFUL AS THIS.” – JOHN + KELLY TRAVOLTA ____________________________________________________ Once I [Drexelle] read the pregnancy test, I couldn’t stop crying. Once I [Drexelle] read the pregnancy test, I couldn’t stop crying. I rushed over to the doctor’s to get the official test. When I sat down and waited for the results, I couldn’t keep calm.
Nurse: “Now it’ll take a few minutes for the results to show. …Wait, that was fast. Yup, you’re pregnant.”
I drove on home, debating over and over again on how to share the news with the hubby.
I ran into the house, threw a blanket over my head, and waited for David.
David: “Honey, are you okay?”
NINJA FAST! I surprised him with:
Me: “You’re gonna be a DADDY!”
David (for the next 15 minutes): “WHA…WHA…WHAAATTT?!”
Since both of our families have been praying to Jesus to give us a baby for so long, we decided to wait ’til Christmas to announce the big news. Waiting weeks to share the good news was agonizing…to which David said, “Now you get what I went through when I waited to propose to you?”
…So I have a fascination with penguins.
Even pre-March of the Penguins, they were my favorite animals. Certain penguins find the right “rock” to ask the girl to be his. They’re together for life. They endure the world’s harshest conditions for their family. Yada yada yada.
So we got each member of the family these ridiculously cute baby penguins and labeled each one with what the baby will call each person.
The one I made for my Dad (it’s his first grandbaby):
WHEW! It feels so good to be able to share it with everyone now.
From our hearts, thank you so much for all the love, prayers, and encouragement as we’ve been praying to have this precious baby.
Baby Pros, recommendations for baby books, resources, and what to buy/what not to buy are more than welcome!

Bobby and I have been together for 7 years so I was sort of expecting a proposal.
I would say it all started when he bought tickets to a Jack Johnson concert in August 2010. A few weeks passed and we drove by the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater and realized we missed the concert. Bummed that we missed my favorite singer and wasted tickets, Bobby suggested that we take a break from all the craziness at work and just relax. The next afternoon, he called me to tell me that he’s planning a small weekend trip for us to San Diego. Instinctively, I thought… proposal… (He rarely plans anything!) Excited, I called my mom to ask her if Bobby asked her any special questions and she said no.
A vacation is still a vacation and I was excited to be relaxing in the San Diego sun. When we arrived at the hotel, we immediately headed to the spa and enjoyed a wonderful massage. I quickly forgot about everything and all my thoughts had melted away but then Bobby mentioned that he made reservations at a restaurant next door and my mind quickly went to PROPOSAL! We entered the restaurant and were seated in an intimate booth in the corner of the restaurant. We each had a 4 or 5 course dinner with a glass of wine and even dessert… I waited and waited throughout dinner but there was no ring in my wine glass and no diamond on my dessert. The question I eagerly waited for never arrived.
After dinner, Bobby suggested that we go explore the city but I was tired and wanted to sleep. After an hour of persuading, I reluctantly went out with him. We got into the car and started driving, I asked him where we were going and he wouldn’t tell me! I thought to myself, why would he want it to be a surprise? So, I put the pieces together and again thought PROPOSAL! He was trying to surprise me with a PROPOSAL! We ended up at San Diego State University, not knowing what was going on but excited at the possibility of being engaged, I went along with his plan. Walking into the University, I noticed that there were a bunch of people (adults and children) so, I thought there was a fair or carnival in town and how cheesy but oh so romatical to be proposed on top of a Ferris wheel. As we continued to walk towards the amphitheater, I realized that that I was wrong. He surprised me with Floor Seating at a Maroon 5 concert! SURPRISE!! This whole trip was to make up for the concert we missed last week. I was excited, happy and now hopeful that maybe Adam Levine would ask me on stage so Bobby could PROPOSE but this never happened.
Bobby woke me up the next morning to tell me that we had reservations for Brunch at 10am. It was raining in sunny San Diego, so I really wanted to sleep in. By the time we were ready, we were running late and didn’t have time to pack up, Bobby called the front desk to ask for a late checkout and they gave us till 1pm. Since we were leaving later that day and didn’t need them to clean the room, I to put up the “DO NOT DISTURB” sign.
We were walking over to the restaurant and I thought to myself, maybe during brunch? Well, that idea was quickly forgotten as I entered the restaurant. I was in food heaven. I tried everything and loved it and by the time brunch ended, I was so full that I forgot about the proposal. Good thing too because I didn’t get one.
It was about 1:30pm when we got back to the hotel room. Before walking in, I noticed that the “Do not disturb” sign was gone and there were dirty cups right outside our room. Needless to say, I was annoyed that they completely disregarded the sign that we put up. When Bobby and I walked into the room, I noticed that there were rose petals everywhere and there were a dozen red roses on the coffee table. OOO..LA..LA… I thought that these items were meant for the next guest who was going to stay in the room but I was curious. I went to look at the card that was attached to the flowers and it was a postcard from the hotel! On the back of the card it said, “You’re invited” and there was a scratcher right underneath, excited that I was being invited somewhere and thinking that I won something, I started to scratch off the back, LINE BY LINE I started to scratch. Date: October 17, 2010. Time: Noon, (oh no, I’m already late) so I scratch even faster. Location: Hotel Coronado, awesome… I’m already here! Event: Will you marry me? I turn around to look for Bobby and he was down on one knee.

What an amazing day.
So in love with all the beautiful ao dais and colors from the traditional vietnamese wedding tea ceremonies from the day. Gorgeous ao dai, Angi!

This singer was FABULOUS! She got everyone having a good time on the dance floor.
Hilarious. I’d personally be too scared to have had David blindfolded while finding my garter.
